Somil joined as an assistant professor in the ECE Department at the University of Southern California in Fall 2021 after working on safety and planning for autonomous vehicles at Waymo. His long-term goal is to develop a theory that formalizes the design, analysis, and control of autonomous robots that operate intelligently but safely in complex environments.
Javier joined the SIA Lab in the Fall of 2021 as a PhD student; he got his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the Universidad de Santiago de Chile. His research interests are in designing and deploying robots that leverage safety techniques to closely interact with humans.
Kaustav is a Ph. D. student at the University of Southern California. He received his Master's degree in Robotics from the Robotics Institute of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from Vellore Institute of Technology, India. His research interests lie in safe perception and intelligence of autonomous robots. (P.S. He can be easily distracted by discussions about dogs, soccer and culinary exploits!)
Hao recevied his Bachelor Degrees in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering from the Univeristy of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is interested in control theory, optimization, and safety-critical robotics.
Albert joined the SIA Lab in the fall of 2023 as a PhD student after receiving a B.S.E. degree in Computer Science at Princeton University. His main research interests are at the intersection of machine learning and cognitive science, especially as it relates to robot control and safety. He is currently supported by the NASA Space Technology Graduate Research Opportunities fellowship progam.
Shuang is an MS student at USC. He recevied his Bachelor Degrees in Robotics from Southeast University, China. He is interested in exploring the safety and control for legged robots.
First-year student studying Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Southern California. He is interested in research experience as an undergraduate while pursuing exposure for fields of circuitry, fabrication, and autonomy.
Saim is a first-year student studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California. He is interested in mechanical design, control theory, and autonomous robotics and its applications to robotic natural disaster response.
Sascha is a first-year student studying Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Southern California. She is interested in further exploring the applications of deep learning and autonomous systems.
Aryaman is a final year undergraduate student at Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi, majoring in Electronics Engineering. He joined the lab in Summer 2023 through Viterbi-India program. His research interests lie in learning-based perception and control of autonomous systems. He is currently working on mitigating system-level failures of vision-based systems.
Xingpeng (Richard) Xia is a 3rd-year undergraduate at Tsinghua University, majoring in Automation with a minor in Statistics. He's passionate about Machine Learning, Optimization, Statistics, and Control Theory. In summer 2023, he applied parameterized reachability to control a compass gait walker, and now he is committed to advancing his research in the field of robotics, with a focus on providing safety guarantees for robot systems.
